The Drake Neighborhood Community Garden, located on 27th Street just a few houses south of University Avenue, the garden has a rich history in the neighborhood. It has hosted gardeners since the mid-1990s. In 2023 Drake University, the DNA, and Lutheran Services in Iowa's Global Greens program (Global Greens - Lutheran Services in Iowa (lsiowa.org)) met to create a future path and plan for the Garden. We are excited to see the activity and work LSI will put into the garden.

HISTORY

There was historically no charge to cultivate one of its roughly thirty 12-square-foot plots. Gardeners were expected to participate in community work days at the garden to help maintain its beauty and functionality.

Eddie V. Robinson, Jr., Master Gardener and Rose Scott had been managing the garden since 1999. There is typically a community work day mid-April, or as weather allows, to prepare the garden and select and assign plots. Here are some photos of when the DNA managed the gardedn.
